Managing upgrades and downgrades in your subscription plan

Upgrading or downgrading your plan is essential for managing your subscription to meet your needs and budget. This article will explain how you will be charged and how to manage changes when upgrading or downgrading.

Understand how Kudosi’s billing works



Kudosi uses Shopify's payment system and processes charges at the same time as Shopify's billing cycle. As a result, recurring app charges are billed with the next Shopify 30-day invoice.

For example:

The bill on May 5 includes the app subscription fee for the period from April 20 to May 20. Similarly, the bill on June 4 includes the app subscription fee for the period from May 20 to June 19 (since May has 31 days).

Understand upgrade plan process



This will be applied to both monthly and yearly subscriptions:

When you upgrade to a higher plan and agree to the new charge, the existing recurring charge will be immediately canceled and replaced by the new charge.
New subscription charges are prorated when a merchant upgrades to a higher-priced subscription during the current billing cycle. The total cost is calculated based on the following factors:
The cost you have already paid for the current plan
The cost difference between the plans
The time left in the current billing cycle

plan1_cost + (plan2_cost - plan1_cost) * (cycle_days_left / total_cycle_days) = total_cost

For example:

If you begin a 30-day billing cycle on a $9.90 lower plan and upgrade to a $19.90 higher plan on day 15 of the billing cycle, you'd be charged a total of $14.9 for the upgraded plan. The charges will be separated into 2 parts: $9.90 for the lower plan and a $5 prorated charge for the higher plan.

$9.90 + ($19.90 - $9.90) * (15/30) = $14.9

Steps to upgrade plan:

Choose a higher plan.
In the approve subscription, choose a payment method.
Click Approve.

Note: After completing the upgrading plan process, you will have access to all the features of your chosen plan with all your previous data remaining unchanged.

Understand Downgrade plan process



Monthly Plan



Steps to downgrade plan:

Choose a lower plan > accept feature limits.



If your current total reviews per product exceeded the limits of the lower plan you wish to downgrade to. You need to click Go to manage reviews and delete reviews until each product has reviews equal to or below the lower plan quota.



For example, when downgrading to the Free plan, which allows a total of 5 reviews per product. If your current product has 500 reviews, you will need to remove at least 495 reviews to proceed with the downgrade.
In this case, you must:
+ Go to the Manage Reviews page
+ Identify all products with over 5 reviews that exceed the new plan's quota.
+ For each product that has over 5 reviews, delete reviews until that product has 5 reviews or fewer.

After deleting reviews, return to the pricing page, and choose a desired lower plan to complete the downgrade process.
In the approved subscription, choose a payment method.
Click Approve.

Note: Be aware that quotas are reduced in the lower plan, and some features may be limited.

Yearly Plan



According to Shopify's policy, if you switch to a lower-priced annual subscription, the new subscription is deferred until your current annual billing cycle is completed.

However, our current app does not support downgrading plans in the yearly plan. Therefore, currently, you cannot downgrade an annual subscription to a lower annual and monthly subscription.
